And so 2009 arrives. It's just another night, and an excuse to maybe have a beverage or two more than you should, but generally we use it as an excuse to head bush, take dogs and bikes, and go camping. Destination? Mitta Mitta Valley. Bewdiful.
We've been up there for the last couple of days, complete with in-laws and sister-in-law, plus a few friends that made the trip too. Great company, great weather, and great saddle time too.
It was a good opportunity to test my climbing ability on a known route - "The Hollow Way", which starts in the valley, and winds it way up Eskdale Spur towards the summit of Mt Bogong. A dirt road firetrail climb the whole way, reasonably well graded, some pinch sections, but overall about 28km of steady climbing.
Didn't make the whole climb - ran out of time as we had some day-tripper guests back at camp that I wanted to see - but climbed pretty solidly in the middle ring the whole way.
Next time I'm finishing the bloody thing!
3 weeks tomorrow until Mutual Community Challenge (Tour Down Under) - 155km and a stack of climbing.
