Well, this is the last time we will sleep in this house! After almost 8 years (the longest I have been anywhere since I left home), Els and I will finally move into our new property tomorrow.
It's been a long week of moving anything that isn't bolted down, and the removalists will hopefully take care of all of the big items tomorrow.
Experiencing the usual headaches and hassle with transferring and reconnecting services - ADSL may be out for a week or so. I see some quality iPhone time in my future.
Adios, Mulqueeney St. You've been a great house, we've loved living here, and it will be a sad occasion leaving.

Things I'm Looking Forward To About Having a Kid #2
Riding to school.
I saw this article in today's paper (The Age), and it just seems such a wasted opportunity to me:

Seriously - a chance to spend some quality outside time with your kid(s) every day - why wouldn't you ride with your kids to school every day?

Things That Are Cool About Our New House #1
Was unpacking what felt like the millionth ute load for the weekend (but I think it was only #8), I saw something very, very cool.
A big-arsed Wedgetail Eagle floated past on a thermal between me and the Bush Reserve behind us.
Awesome.

Take A Kid Mountain Biking
One of the things I did in Adelaide while I was there earlier in the year was to take my 7yo nephew for a bike ride. I figured the time was right to expose him to the joys of the dirt, and luckily, there was a convenient IMBA-specced trail development nearby.
This was also a good opportunity to test out the Contour HD helmet cam that Els bought me last year - it hadn't had much of a run, but I figured it was about time, and what better reason!
Last night I finally got to downloading the footage and having a little play with it. I have never had much luck with editing software in the past, but my Dad tipped me off to the AVS Editing Suite, an open-source package that is very, very slick.
Anyway, this was the result:

Mortgage - We Has One
Well we've dipped our toe into the property market again. After selling up when we left Adelaide, and renting for the last 8 years, the time was right (read: I didn't want my kid drawing on anyone else's wall) to buy our own home again. And yesterday we officially became owners.
I'd forgotten about the joy of moving house - the last one was easy, all I did was pack the house in Adelaide, get the removalists in, and ship it over. Els was at this end to unpack and get things organised. This time doesn't look to be as easy - 8 years in the same house has been there has been some 'settling of contents', and there hasn't been the regular pruning of possessions that gets done every time you move. In fact, 8 years is the longest I've been in any house since I left home.
Luckily we're in no rush to get out of the current property - I've sneakily built in a nearly 4 week layover between the two properties to try and limit the stress and panic, which neither of us need at the moment.
And with a merry band of helpers today, we got a fair bit done. 6 car / ute loads, all the pot plants, BBQ and outdoor furniture, plus pretty much all of the pre-boxed items which have been occupying the spare room.
Tomorrow - the shed. This is going to be an archaeological expedition without precedent - 8 years worth of bike parts and fishing bits and bobs, not to mention the gardening supplies! First call will be to get the bike and kayak racks up on the wall at the new house - with these items out of the shed, I'm hoping the process will be significantly easier.
Wish us luck!

Home Sweet diddly-Home
Ex-freaking-hausted.
Have just returned from a four day stint working in an Incident Control Centre set up to manage the response to the Victorian floods.
I was deployed as a Mapping Officer, and was responsible for generating a never-ending stream of maps for analysis, mark up, field crew use, the works. I lost track of how many I created, but I did blow through 2 x 100 metre rolls of plotter paper.
I think I worked out in 4 days, we worked 56 hours. And that was just the day shift - there was a full night shift running also that was working just as hard.
So I am now home - well, what is going to be home for the next 4 days anyway, until we settle on our new house - Friday! Somehow I suspect the moving operation is going to be every bit as complex as the flood response, just without as many people working on it.
I should probably go and pack some boxes or something.

Seriously? 17 weeks ALREADY?
E's pregnancy is flying, absolutely flying. I can't believe it's 17 weeks already. Nearly half way through!
Time is a very abstract concept at the moment. The 8 weeks between when we found out and the 12 week scan was possibly the longest period of time EVER - made even longer and nerve wracking with a few hiccups and scary moments along the way, but from then it has absolutely sailed.
I seriously feel like I'm going to wake up tomorrow and there will be a third person living in our house.
However, before we get to that point, we need to survive the next 3 weeks of settling on our new house purchase, moving house, and getting the old one cleaned up and back to the owner.
Any by 'need to survive', I really mean 'need to get through without murdering each other'.
Two Type-A personalities in the same house, what could possibly go wrong?
